Abstract
Hyperuricemia may result from excessive production of uric acid or a reduced discharge caused by genetic and metabolic disorders. Uric acid levels can be lowered by taking herbs such as sambiloto and brotowali which contain alkaloids, tannins, saponins and flavonoids that are processed by the method of decoction. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the decoction of sambiloto and brotowali when combined directly to lower uric acid in mice and the time required for sambiloto and brotowali to show the effect of decreased uric acid when induced into the body of male mice. Induction is done by administering potassium oksonat to increase uric acid levels. The experimental design used in this study is completely randomized design, with three variety of combination treatment decocta and two controls. To reduce levels of uric acid is used in combination sambiloto and brotowali decocta made with three ratio of 1: 3, 2: 2, and 3: 1 and the provision of distilled water control and the generic drug allupurinol. Measurement of uric acid levels using a photometer MICROLAB 300 with absorbance of 546 nm. Results were analyzed by ANOVA with 95% confidence level using SPSS version 15.0. It was found that the combination of sambiloto : brotowali effectively lowered uric acid levels with the highest ratio in reducing the sambiloto : brotowali 3: 1 as many as 13.16 mg/dl within 1 week.
