Abstract

One type of potential fish catches in West Kutai is fish Baung (Mystus numurus C.V, 1840). Fish Baung marketed so far show the relative sizes vary from time to time. Therefore, in order Baung fish resource utilization can be maintained, the necessary information about the fish gonad maturity can be determined by calculating the gonad maturation index (IKG). This study aims to determine: (1) the index of gonad maturity Baung fish landed in TPI Bohoq and (2) the size of fish Baung matured genitals first. This study uses an analytical approach with ELEFAN I (electronic length frequency analysis) contained in FISAT II software version 1.2.2. thus, can be obtained information for sustainable management of fish Baung by comparing the results of the analysis of gonad maturity index with descriptive analysis results ELEFAN. The results showed that: (1) IKG average obtained from 25 fish Baung gonads was 10.19%, and (2) fish Baung mature gonads was first on the length of 39-48 cm with a weight of 1250-1849 grams.
