Abstract

Conventional bioethanol (free cell) production usually just can be done one time . Bioethanol production by Saccharomyces cerevisiae having problems because of ethanol production that occurs can be toxic to microbes in the fermentation process so that it can inhibit microbial growth. However, there are some cell imobilized techniques that can ferment ethanol more than one times. The aim of this research was to determine bioetanol production pineapple peel with repeatedly cell Saccharomyces cerevisiae imobilized technique. Imobilized technique using Ca-alginat.This study uses a completely randomized design with four variations of Ca-alginate concentration 2, 4, 6, and 8%. Stages of research conducted is sterilization workspace, tools, and materials and then the preparation of raw materials of pineapple skin porridge and then hydrolysis the pineapple skin porridge and then taken pineapple skin filtrate filtrate. Saccharomyces cerevisae was tested for purity then Saccharomyces cerevisae immobilized and immobilized Saccharomyces cerevisae cells were used for pineapple skin filtrate fermentation and tested immobil cell activity with parameter of reducing sugar content and ethanol content. The results obtained showed that the fermentation can be done three times that seen from decreased levels of ethanol and cell metabolism slows. Variations in the concentration of Ca-alginate significant effect (α = 0.05) on the production of bioethanol on the parameters of ethanol content. Variations in the concentration of Ca-alginate that produces the highest ethanol content was 4%, was 18.2% (w/v). The highest ethanol productivity was 2.5 (g/Lhour).
