Abstract

Narcotics are actually chemical substance or drugs which can be used to cure certain diseases. However, when narcotics are consumed not based on medical standards, they can be destructive for individuals and society as a whole. Sintang Regency – with an area of 21.386 m2 with high number of the spread of narcotics. This geographical position makes it very easy too for narcotics dealers to bring all kinds of illegal drugs to Sintang area. The fact that the spread of narcotics and other illegal drugs in Sintang is very high has encouraged the writing of this research. The topic of the research is “Efforts Of Sintang Police Area Headquarter To Prevent Abuse Of Narcotics In Sintang Area”. The research question is How does the Sintang Police tackle the problem of the abuse of narcotics in Sintang area which is under its responsibility, and what are the obstacles the police is facing in their efforts to handle this problem. The type of this research is a normative legal research. The result of the research indicated that Sintang Police has taken preemtive, preventive and repressive efforts in tackling the problem, and that in doing those efforts, the police faced internal and external obstacles. This research suggests that Sintang Police should develop special strategy and take more active and intensive preventive efforts to tackle the problem of narcotics abuse in Sintang, in order to totally stop the abuse of narcotics in the area.
