Abstract
Local wisdom as the foundation of the active role of society in protecting the environment over time. Unan Unan ceremony is a local wisdom that is still maintained and developed through the role of Tengger community in the protection and management of the environment. The purpose of this reasearch is to know the form of local wisdom and to know the role of Tengger society through Unan Unan ceremony in maintaining and developing local culture and wisdom. The method in this research is empirical law research, using inductive thinking method. The results of this research are: Unan Unan Ritual Ceremony always been held every five years, stories about the sacrifice of the Unan Unan Ceremony, values and life guidelines, and Traditional Beliefs of Tengger People. The role is demonstrated by following the ceremonial procession, contributing funds, contributing in the form of crops to those who own, and practicing the values and guidelines of life by respecting water sources, trees, forests and others that are sacred. Besides, it is proven by Unan Unan ceremony which until now is still implemented and continue to grow from generation to generation.
