Abstract
Eigenrichting in the form of a beating is a legal problem that is happening in Indonesia. Eigenrichting is an act by the public to punish the perpetrator of a crime unilaterally with a form of physical violence that results in injury to death. In the case of vigilante action carried out together this is a criminal act for violating Article 170 of the Criminal Code in jointly committing a crime. By Sebeb the author examines the efforts of the Yogyakarta City Police in tackling Eigenrichting in the form of beatings. In this author, the author writes about how the efforts and obstacles of the Yogyakarta City Police Department in tackling Eigenrichting in the form of beatings and how the perpetrators of Eigenrichting accountability in the form of beatings. from the results of the author's research, the authors explain that in the coping efforts conducted by the police, the police use preventive and repressive measures. Whereas in the case of obstacles faced by the police, the Police have constraints in the case of clashes by reason of the eradication of criminal acts, namely the forced defense mentioned in Article 49 of the Criminal Code and sociological factors outside the normative constraints, such as the level of legal awareness is weak, high emotional level, received by the police, difficulty in finding witnesses and instructions, distance and time. In terms of determining the perpetrators in police vigilante action using Articles 55 and 56 of the Criminal Code on the inclusion of criminal acts.
