Abstract

Sidewalks are a means of traffic for pedestrians. By the regulation, they should be managed by best planning, setting, and controlling to satisfy the public interest. We know that sidewalks in Yogyakarta by the present belong to private interest than the public interest. It is described by the high and low design of sidewalks right now. The author chooses the topic about sidewalks to explain this problem in the term of law. The kind of the research is normative research. The author uses legislation about Sidewalks management as a base to carry out this research. In addition, the author uses secondary data collected by the arguments of lawyer and the other authority both orally and in writing. Another data are taken from the book of law. By the result of the research, the author found that the sidewalks in Yogyakarta City were not still in the good condition. There were several electricity pole built on them and the other built without stairs. This condition disturb the comfort of pedestrians. Finally, the author concludes that the government should review and make improvements of the sidewalks in order to satisfy the public interest.
