Abstract
The Up-and-Down Market has the potential to cause environmental problems because of the waste generated from buying and selling activities on the market. The legal issues raised are, first, how is the role of the Environmental Service in controlling the pollution of the Kapuas River due to the waste of the Upland Market in Sintang District and, secondly, are there obstacles faced by the Environmental Service. Data in empirical legal research is collected through interviews with informants and literature studies. The management of Junjung Buih market waste by the Environmental Service as an effort to control the Kapuas River water pollution has not been properly done due to several obstacles, namely, the lack of community environmental awareness related to waste management, and the lack of waste sorting facilities in the Junjung Buih Market. The suggestion is that the Environmental Agency is needed to provide counseling and supervision to the traders related to market waste management, the government needs to allocate costs to provide waste sorting facilities, and establish a community between traders in matters related to waste management.
