Abstract

Tourism has great potential for economic growth, it can create jobs and it plays an important role in introducing culture to tourist. Tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors that is showed by an increasing number of tourist destinations. Considering the contribution of tourism that is large enough, it should be followed by the development of its facilities. The city of Yogyakarta is one of the most favorite tourist destinations. This is mainly because it has a rich culture that is growing within the community. In this modern era, tourists seek more than the beauty of Indonesia’s nature but especially to witness the local culture of a particular society. In Yogyakarta, one of the tourist destination is called tourist village that can be used not only for recreational activities but also an educational function by involving direct interaction between tourists and locals. Yogyakarta is one of the cities that capable to develop the concept of a tourist village. However, some villages show a decreasing trend due to the lack of attention from the government. Krebet Tourism Village is one of the tourist village, specifically a batik wood craftsmen center, that is located in Bantul regency. This village has a potential to attract tourists to learn how to make batik using wood as the media. Information Center for Batik Kayu Handicraft aims to improve the number of tourist’s facilities through the appearance of the building by applying the contemporary architectural design. The application of the design will be integrated into arrangement elements to create a space that gives a blending impression with outer space. The use of local materials is applied to preserve local wisdom. The existence of Batik Wood Craft Information Center is expected to be a place of interaction between craftsmen and tourists so that tourists can easily obtain information about Krebet Tourism Village while also develop their skills through workshops so that Krebet Tourism Village can be a means of both education and recreation.
