Abstract

andalism is the act of damaging works of art and other valuables. Vandalism activity was very detrimental to society especially disturbing public order and security in society. Yogyakarta police as a government agency that has the main task to maintain security, order, and provide shelter and services to the public. They play an important role in preventing and combating vandalism acts from spreading. Based on the background of the problem, the authors interested in studying how the efforts and obstacles of Yogyakarta police in tackling vandalism practice with the title, DIY Police Efforts In Prevention Vandalism Crime in Yogyakarta. The method of empirical research data source is the primary legal materials, secondary law and tertiary legal materials and the way of data collection conducted by field studies and literature as well as the analysis of data using qualitative analysis to compare data in the field with primary and secondary legal materials while the method of drawing conclusions using deductive method. Based on the analysis with the results of research it was found that there are preventive measures with efforts undertaken repressive Yogyakarta police in prevention vandalism crime. Preventive measures in the form of socialization and education and learning in schools, inviting the public to be more pro-active with sensitive as well as cooperation relevant agencies to combat the practice of vandalism in addition to preventive police efforts are also made efforts repressive form of an investigation, raids, arrests, investigation and guidance to offenders in an effort to solve vandalism crime there are some obstacles in the form of the absence of laws and regulations governing in particular, the difficulty of determining the location of vandalism crime, mostly perpetrators of vandalism are still under age and a lack of public awareness.
