Abstract

This research entitled “The Roles and Positions of Wildlife Rescue Centre in The Conservation of Protected Animals in The Special Province of Yogyakarta”. This research described and studied, (1) the roles and positions of Wildlife Rescue Centre in the conservation of protected animals in Yogyakarta and (2) the obstacles faced by Wildlife Rescue Centre in the conservation of protected animals in Yogyakarta. This study was an empiric law research. The type of data included interview data as main data and supported with secondary data which consist of primary and secondary law materials. Techniques of collecting data used were interview and library research by studying legislation, legal journals, and legal articles; then the technique analyzing used was inductive thinking method. The result of research showed that the roles and positions of Wildlife Rescue Center are the care and rehabilitation of illegally hunted and traded protected animals. These animals come from the law enforcement operations by Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (Natural Conservation Agency). The main obstacle faced by Wildlife Rescue Centre is the rampant illegal hunting and trading of protected animals despite the constant operations by BKSDA. The goals of Wildlife Rescue Centre is to release the animals back to its natural habitat.
