Abstract

Disaster prone areas are areas that have geologic conditions or characteristics that have high potential for disaster. One of the goverment agencies dealing with the problem of disaster prone areas is Natural Disaster Management Agency,. This agency is in charge of monitoring the disaster prone areas especially the disaster prone of Mount Merapi in Sleman. The purpose of it’s controlled area due to the many uses of the area that is not in accordance with the provisions of the spatial function. Based on the result of the current research area is still inhabited by the resident and there are new buildings that stand in the area that should not be occupied. The existing violations are due to the constraints faced by the emergence of the principle of living harmony with disaster adopted by citizens and lack of supervision from the goverment. In overcoming these problems Natural Disaster Management Agency made steps to control the utilization of disaster prone areas throught supervision, guidance, environmental damage analysis, control and sanctions.
