Abstract

Laundry business is developing rapidly in Jebres-sub district, Surakarta city. The presence of laundry facilitize the people who lives around like students, workers, even the residents, which can reduce the load of housework they had without spending much energy and affordable price for the people. Laundry is a service that done to the washing process of the clothes. It’s processed by using the main medium of water, soap / chemical, and washing machine done by the worker like around 1-5 depends on the business scale. The bad impact caused by the activity of laundry business is the production of liquid waste in the form of water detergents containing phosphates high into the drains and it could raise the negative effects for the environment especially the waste will mixed with ground water which disrupts its quality. The research conducted in this thesis is an empirical study that done from the interview with some experts in their fieds and literature reviews. The conclusions gotten in this study is the role of the Environmental Agency to protect the ground water's quality as the results of business laundry activities. In terms of managing the waste and dispose of the waste has not done well done by the owner of the businness laundry because of the unwillingness and lack of awareness of protecting the environment of the laundry activitiesRelated to the ground's water quality protection, it is expected that the environmental agency can provide education like counseling and control over the laundry who does not carry out its obligations .
