Abstract
Indonesia's natural resources is in the form of renewable and non-renewable natural resources. The examples of non-renewable natural resources are gold which can be found in Sintang District, West Kalimantan. The peoples turned to the mining sector because they saw good potential for excavation. Along with the rampant mining activities in Sintang District, so many gold mining activities that are not licensed. The reality that we can see is that the Kapuas River has become polluted as a result of illegal mining activities in Sintang Regency. The formulation of the problem raised was how to protect the water quality of the Kapuas River as a result of illegal mining in the Sintang Regency. The type of research used is empirical research. Based on the results of research and discussion, the author conclude that the Sintang Regency government has not optimally protected the water quality of the Kapuas River as a result of illegal mining. In this case, the government has not taken action against the perpetrators of illegal mining and has not taken action to restore the quality of the Kapuas River water.
