Abstract
Kotagede is a historic district that is in the special region of Yogyakarta that was very thick with cultural heritage. This is where the residents of the area settled Kotagede since the first time the mataram Kingdom. On the present name of Kotagede may refer to the Sub-District of Kota Gede. The first capital city of kotagede Mataram who stand around 16th century. some historical relics in Kotagede are the remains of the existence of the Palace, the King's Tomb, the great mosque of beteng, and used to be surrounding it. Currently kotagede famous silver handicrafts and tourism heritage. In this paper will discuss about the morphology of the city regarding the development of kotagede, namely the influence of the factor what factors shape the Kotagede either dominant or not dominant, physical and non physical, against the pattern forms and elements kotagede from the beginning/history and is there a link to the development of area-forming factors Kotagede period today. The purpose of this writing is to find patterns of forming and development of Kotagede from time to time, as well as mengertahui the factors that affected it, by doing do studies library and study field. This study uses the form of writing reviews of the theory for obtaining secondary data about the factors forming the city both physically and fission, as well as the non observation of the field in the form of collection of photos that come with to obtain data Primer. Comparison between fieldwork and library studies can produce conclusions on the history of the development of the region.
