Abstract
The purpose of this legal research is to analyze how the role of the Department of Environment in controlling environmental damage. This type of legal research used is empirical legal research. The data collection technique was carried out by interviewing informants and respondents. The resource persons for this research were the Environmental Agency and PT Anindya Mitra Internasional. Respondents of this research are the Department of Investment and Integrated Services. The results showed that the Environmental Agency has played a controlling role through the fields of licensing, supervision and land conservation. However, in this implementation there were obstacles from the surrounding community, the miners, and the Environmental Service itself. Constraints from the Environmental Service include limited authority, human resources, and funds. Therefore, the role of the Environmental Service has not been maximized in controlling environmental damage due to limestone mining in Ponjong District, Gunungkidul Regency.
