Abstract

This study aims to understand the role of the Department of the Environment and Forestry (DLHK) in efforts to control damage to the environment as a result of the mobility of vehicles transporting rocks in the district of Klaten. This research is using the methods of empirical. Methods of empirical is a method of research that focuses on the social facts. Methods of collecting data used is through interviews and research by studying Law, books and articles that relate to the Law and the Environment , and using inductive analysis. The results of the research is the role of the Department of the Environment and Forestry in efforts to control damage to the environment as a result of the mobility of vehicles transporting rocks in the District of Klaten has been proceeding as planned, but the performance is not optimal for monitoring the whole case, it also can not be done continuously or periodic. Due to the not optimal efforts to control damage to the environment that are caused by the presence of obstacles such as lack of resources the power of man, DLHK District Klaten faces difficulty of coordination with agenciesrelated to address the causes of damage to the environment. The author suggests that the Government needs to add functional environmental supervisors who are appointed by the Regent or ask for additional human resources at DLHK. Furthermore, DLHK needs to create a special forum that allows complaints from the community and business owners.
