Abstract

The mining activity in Progo River of Kulon Progo District had attracted the public’s attention. Recently, soil mining activity had become trending in the Progo River causing enviromental problems that exist, where the cause of the problem had founded many illegal mining actors who didn’t had mining business license for mining activities. Mining activities that didn’t had the license and didn’t implemented the environmental condition aspect are the reason which potentially damaged the river and the environmental ecosystem. The Illegal mining activity has causing losses both to the river environments and the social community near the river. This research purpose is to know how the role of the Environmental service of Kulon Progo District in monitoring the activity of soil mining in the Progo River. The research method that is use in these thesis is empirical legal research method which comparing regulations. From this research which concluded that The enviromental services in monitoring the mining activities was not done optimally. The reason of this matter is because if the enforcement is carried out, many mining actors will lose their livelihood and affecting the public’s economical state.
