Abstract
Increasing the value of construction each year signals that construction project activities in Indonesia are getting higher. It is well known that construction is the most resource-intensive sector in the world. It consumes more than half of total global resources and is responsible for more than one-third of total global energy use and related emissions; and produce the largest and most productive waste stream globally and one of the main resource consumers and waste generators, which has several environmental, social and economic impacts. The demolition phase has a greater percentage in contributing to the generation of debris compared with the construction phase and with the largest source is in buildings, roads, and bridges. The purpose of this study is to identify how the provisions for the demolition of buildings in Indonesia in managing waste demolition and explain how the provisions for the waste management regulations are carried out by demolition contractors in Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative approach with the main data used are building regulations and the results of interviews with demolition contractors. This research data processing uses the top-down method and assisted using tools in the NVIVO software in the process of coding data. Based on the results of data processing of 14 regulations relating to buildings, 7 regulations along with 17 specific provisions there of are set about demolition with 7 rovisions including specifics in regulating the management of demolition waste and in its implementation 2 provisions have not been fully implemented. So it can be concluded that the implementation of demolition waste management has been almost completely carried out while the dominant activity is the recovery and action of the waste solver or distributor carried out by carefully disassembling building components for resale or management focusing on components that are valuable for sale.
