Abstract

This study entitled "The Role of Non-Governmental Organizations (KSM) 'Ngudi Rapi' in Household Waste Management as A Contribution to The Environmental Pollution Prevention Efforts in Klaten Regency". The purpose of this study is to find out waste management as an effort to the environmental pollution prevention and the obstacles faced by the Non-Governmental Organization (KSM) "Ngudi Rapi" in managing their activities. This research is an empirical legal research that focuses on social facts. The result of this research, the role of the Non-Govermental Organization (KSM) "Ngudi Rapi" is collecting household waste from the Gergunung Village residents, sorting waste activities, and recycling household waste that are still usable by turning them into new products. These activities affect the percentage of household waste disposal in landfills (TPA) by 70% to 80% every day. The first obstacle is that the Non-Governmental Organization (KSM) "Ngudi Rapi" has not been able to process inorganic waste, especially plastic because of inadequate facilities and infrastructure. The second obstacle is the lack of public awareness in sorting the waste generated by their daily activities.
