Abstract

Hazardous matetials waste are substances, energy, and/or other components which due to their nature, concentration and/or amount, either directly or indirectly, can pollute and/or endanger the environment, health, and life sustainability of human and other living things. Meanwhile, environmental pollution is the entry of pollutant materials into the natural environment that can cause changes that damage the environment. This study aims to determine the implementation of B3 medical waste management done by Panti Rini Hospital Yogyakarta and to find out the factors that hinder the implementation of B3 medical waste management at Panti Rini Hospital Yogyakarta. Based on the results of the study, the management of B3 medical waste at the Panti Rini Hospital is well-managed. This can be proven by the availability of temporary trash cans in each room in the form of yellow plastic bags to accommodate medical waste and black plastic bags for domestic waste. Those waste are then taken to a temporary dump located behind the hospital. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday the waste will be transported by the final processor, namely PT. Arah, to be destroyed. The factor that hinders the implementation of B3 medical waste management is if the worker who transports the waste is sick so there is no one else to transport them and it causes trash pile. The implementation of B3 medical waste management carried out by Panti Rini Hospital Yogyakarta has been going well. Panti Rini Hospital Yogyakarta must hire more workers in the cleaning service division because if there is a cleaning service that is sick or unable to attend today's duty, someone can replace him/her, so that there will be no trash pile in hospital rooms or hire new workers who are placed in the division of waste transportation so that Cleaning services should not work outside their respective fields in order to minimize mixed medical waste and domestic waste.
