Abstract

Street as urban corridor have two functions, there are public and private functions. Some research found many unique phenomena, especially privatization of public spaces occurred on the urban streets. The phenomena of privatization of urban space are using private properties for expressing intentions into public domain or utilizing public properties for private benefit. Field observation with phenomenology paradigm at Tambakbayan street found many unique cases indicated into the concept of privatization of public spaces. Privatization of public spaces at Tambakbayan street which done by commercial actors occurred on two sides of the street, and by family units or lokal communities (RTRW) occurred on one side (west side) of the Tambakbayan street. Privatization of public spaces at Tambakbayan street caused by the lacking of properties owned by private or public institutions and the existing many lost spaces on Tambakbayan urban street. The main character of privatization of public spaces at Tambakbayan urban street called occupation by private and public functions into public spaces, and driven by social, economic and household motives as internal push factors.
