Abstract

Criminalization is the determination of a behavior that was not previously seen as a crime into an act that can be punished. In the case of prostitution as an act that violates legal norms, it takes a science that can make an action a criminal act. This is the background behind the author to write a law related to the criminalization of the practice of prostitution in Sleman Regency. The research method uses a normative research method in which the authors approach the problem under study with the laws and regulations relating to the act of prostitution and analyze the findings. The author conducted data collection in OPD of the Sleman Regional Government by conducting interviews with Kasat Reskrim Polres Sleman to find out how to arrange an act of prostitution into a criminal act as well as efforts to control criminal acts of prostitution in Sleman Regency. From this research, the author conducts an analysis using laws and regulations relating to the crime of prostitution such as the Criminal Code, Legislation, as well as various secondary literature such as books and journals. Based on the author's research, the handling of the crime of prostitution is carried out based on the provisions of the laws and regulations governing the crime of prostitution. Currently the existing law in Sleman Regency can only ensnare pimps and embroidery house providers, but has not been able to ensnare users and commercial sex workers. Efforts to control the practice of prostitution are preventive, non-judicial, and repressive. The author concludes that a new criminal law policy is urgently needed as an effort to combat prostitution in Sleman Regency.
