Abstract

Plastic waste is the face of the rapid development of technology and industrialization. Initially, plastic containers were used for long-term use, but now there has been a misunderstanding about the use of plastic containers itself which has the potential to become a problem for environmental degradation. So far, only percent of households recycle their waste, while 66.8 percent of households still handle their waste by burning it. The development of digital technology is a solution to addressing future- oriented waste management problems. One of the digital-based waste management efforts is Rapel. The purpose of developing this application is that it is hoped that the community, especially the younger generation, are aware of a sustainable waste management system from upstream to downstream, so as to answer the problem of waste management, especially plastic waste. Efforts to prevent environmental pollution due to household waste in Bantul Regency through the Rapel application are realized through the workflow system implemented by the Rapel application. The application will educate the household scale to sort waste according to its type by providing an online waste collection system with applications that can be accessed via smartphones. Then Rapel will provide a trash can named Rapel Dropbox according to its type. Dropbox is placed in strategic places to make it easier for users to access. The work system of the Rapel application is one of the efforts to manage household waste by reducing waste from the source. Its application is by educating users that some types of household waste, especially inorganic waste, still have the potential to have economic value.
