Abstract

Police of Republic Indonesia cannot be separated to the society. Police as society service is ought to protect their people from criminal acts which is happens in the midst of society life, and so in street children life. Street children as a part of society groups should not be differentiated to other children who have normal life, they have a life which is need protection too. The lack of guarantee on security often causes the raise of criminal victims, such as children harassment which is happens on the street. In the 2002 Regulation number 2 about Police of Republic Indonesia said police have function, jobs and duty in protecting society from every criminal acts, and so arranged on 2002 Regulation number 23 about child protection , that child should get protection from all types of crime which is done by adult or their fellow. Threat for the harassment doer as mentioned in ‘Kitab Undang Hukum Pidana (KUHP)’ is not enough to make the doers wary, whereas the victims get traumatic on his entire life. From this case the researcher wants to reveal how is the police’s role in handling harassment crime toward street children in Jogjakarta area.
