Abstract
One attempt in health area which is regulated in Regulation No. 23, 1992 concerning Health is about the effort to secure foods and medicines, in terms of medicine has to comply with health standards or health regulations. Packed medicines have to be given information about ingredients, each material composition and expire date, month and year. The meaning of expired here is that medicine which has exceeded it’s expire date, month and year is not healthy to be consumed and hazardous for one’s health. This law writing is aimed to investigate the role of police department in handling expired medicine circulation and overcoming constraints for police department in handling expired medicine circulation. Research location is in Yogyakarta and the research subject is Yogyakarta Police Department. Data collection was done by interviews and literature study. Research data was analyzed by descriptive method, that is, data collected from the primary and secondary data which is systematically and logically written according to the deductive pattern, and then explained, written, and integrated based on scientific normative system. Research result gives conclusion and discussion which explained that the role of police department in handling expired medicines circulation by guiding medicine manufacturers and sellers, monitoring medicine manufacturers and sellers, and implementing control operation in some places. Constraints overcame by police department are the unclear information from citizens and from other data source about expired medicine circulation; the initial findings which has to be followed- up into the outer side of work area; medicine sellers who frequently receive blank statement of account without identity.
