Abstract

Persecution of dogs is included in criminal acts that violate the law, these actions are listed in the provisions of Article 302 of the Criminal Code concerning Mistreatment of Animals, which contains criminal sanctions that can be given in the form of imprisonment for a maximum of three months, but if the abuse can result in the abused animal death, the offender is subject to imprisonment for a maximum of nine months. Selling dog meat is included in animal abuse as stated in Article 302 of the Criminal Code concerning animal abuse that this violates the law and the perpetrators must be given criminal sanctions. The sale of meat that occurs in Sleman Regency is a problem that is rife and difficult to overcome, due to several factors in law enforcement that are not optimal and effective by the Police, so that dog meat sellers continue to sell dog meat. This research is a type of sociological juridical law or empirical juridical. The research approach used is a qualitative approach that is describing and describing the research that has been done, then analyzed as a whole. The results of the study indicate that law enforcement of criminal acts of animal abuse has never been carried out. Awareness from the community and surrounding areas is considered to be lacking and education and counseling are needed again by the Police and animal lovers. The police only gave a statement not to carry out any more activities selling dog meat so that the perpetrators would not feel a deterrent effect.
