Abstract

The biomass activities carried out by farmers in Kulon Progo Regency can, to some extent, affect the quality of the environment. According to Law Number 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management, environmental pollution control is the responsibility of each party. The potential for environmental damage due to the use of chemical fertilizers requires the involvement of food crop farmers, who have a direct responsibility in agricultural matters. There is a land area of 60.210 (sixty thousand two hundred and ten) square meters owned by farmers in the endah District, Kulon Progo Regency. The author conducted mpirical research to obtain accurate answers regarding the role of farmers in implementing environmental protection and management. Furthermore, it has been found that the efforts of 19 (nineteen) farmers who use organic fertilizers in biomass activities can help improve soil structure due to the avoidance of non-organic fertilizers, and 1 (one) farmer plays a significant role in maintaining the goodness of their agricultural land. As a result, most of the farmers in the Lendah District have been actively and effectively involved in environmental protection and management in the field of biomass.
