Abstract

Forests are the lungs of the world. In addition, forests also have many benefits for living things both directly and indirectly. Therefore, forests must be managed properly, namely by preserving and monitoring forests. Forest destruction is one of the problems in this research. Gunungkidul Regency is a forestry area and has various types of wood, so it is one of the natural resources that must be preserved and managed properly. Based on the governing regulations, a forest is an ecosystem unit in the form of an expanse of land containing biological resources dominated by trees in their natural environment and cannot be separated from one another. From this definition, forests need to be managed and given regular supervision because the biological resources owned by forests are prone to timber theft. Wood theft is illegal and very disruptive to life. Therefore, there is a need for supervision to prevent forest destruction. The purpose of this research is to find out how forest protection due to timber theft in Wanagama forest, Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. This writing uses an empirical legal writing method that emphasizes the study of applicable law and what happens in the reality of society. The conclusion of this research is that forest protection from damage due to timber theft in Wanagama Forest, Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region as an effort to prevent and eradicate forest destruction in Yogyakarta, especially Wanagama Forest, has been running well, under control, and in accordance with applicable legal arrangements.
