Abstract

Yogykarta City is one of the densest cities in Indonesia and has several environmental problems, one of which is problems related to groundwater. groundwater is water contained in layers of soil or rock below the ground surface. To maintain the quality of groundwater requires the role of the Environmental Agency. The Environmental Agency of Yogykarta City plas a role in monitoring and supervising groundwater quality by routinely conducting sample tests on groundwater used for public purposes and some groundwater owned by residents. However, in the effort to protect groundwater quality, there are several obstacles such as dense settlements, lack of awareness from the community, and natural factors. To overcome these problems, the Environmental Agency should try to involve many parties and create or propose regulations to protect groundwater quality.
