Abstract
The title of this research is "The Feasibility of Surakarta as a Special Region in the State System of the Republic of Indonesia from a Historical and Juridical Perspective." The author examines the feasibility of Surakarta as a special region in the context of the state system of the Republic of Indonesia. With a background in Dutch colonial history, Surakarta had the status of zelfbesturende landschapen, which should have been preserved upon joining the Republic of Indonesia. However, Law No. 10 of 1950 caused Surakarta to lose its special status. Using a normative legal research approach, the main findings indicate that Surakarta does not qualify to retain its special region status, and public trust in the Surakarta Palace government is declining. In conclusion, Surakarta is not deemed suitable to be a special region due to its inconsistency with the Indonesian Republic's system and the loss of legitimacy from its own community.
