Abstract

The handling of sexual violence cases in Indonesia remains inadequate, with victims facing threats or humiliation when reporting. Police often misunderstand the law, leading to rejected reports due to insufficient evidence and location. Despite the Sexual Violence Crime Act, police support and protection remain insufficient, particularly in Yogyakarta. Research based on interviews with the PPA Unit and LBH Yogyakarta revealed obstacles like victim reluctance and investigative delays. Amendments to Sexual Violence Law No. 12 of 2022 needed to clarify provisions, while the government should fund visum costs. Police must receive regular training to adopt a more victim-centered approach, preventing revictimization.
