Abstract
The lack of handling of hospital waste has resulted in some people feeling disturbed due to the unpleasant odor caused by the waste. The local community felt disturbed by the black smoke produced by the Merauke General Hospital. The increase in the number of hospital patients automatically has an impact on increasing the quantity of waste produced, especially the impact of hospital waste which is dangerous and therefore requires more serious treatment. Legal regulations and obstacles regarding the management of hazardous and toxic waste must be paid more attention by the Merauke Regional General Hospital so that they can find solutions to overcome the prevention of environmental pollutants. In connection with this problem, empirical research was carried out which focused on social facts that occur in society. Merauke Regional Hospital has taken steps to manage medical waste independently by installing its own incinerator machine. However, there are still problems related to capacity and infrastructure conditions that affect the effectiveness of waste management. Merauke Regional Hospital continues to comply with applicable regulations according to Republic of Indonesia Government Regulation No. 101 of 2014 concerning Management of Hazardous and Toxic Waste. regulations and obstacles regarding the management of hazardous and toxic waste must be paid more attention by the Merauke Regional General Hospital so that they can find solutions to overcome the prevention of environmental pollutants.
