Abstract

The Piyungan Landfill in Bantul Regency, which accommodates waste from 3 regencies/cities, namely, Bantul Regency, Sleman Regency and Yogyakarta City, is experiencing overcapacity and is required to be temporarily closed. Waste that exceeds capacity occurs due to limited land and the volume of waste that increases every year. The temporary closure and quota restriction cause environmental pollution in Special Region of Yogyakarta, so in this case the legal problem of the issue used as the purpose of this research is to find out how the Role of the Environment and Forestry Service in supervising the Piyungan Landfill as an effort to tackle environmental pollution in the Special Region of Yogyakarta? This legal research uses empirical legal research methods which collect data by means of interviews, field observations and literature studies. The research findings obtained by the author of this research are, the party from the Yogyakarta Special Region Environment and Forestry Service as the supervisor of the Piyungan Landfill, in this case the P3KLH Division ( Environmental Capacity Building, Assessment and Development) as the external supervisor of the Piyungan Landfill with the guidance of the AMDAL document and the Waste Management Center is a Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) as the direct manager of the Piyungan Landfill and the internal supervisor has carried out its duties and functions properly but the result achieved have not been maximized.
