Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the community in plastic waste management as an effort to prevent environmental pollution in Berbah District, Sleman Regency, with a focus on the Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST) of BUMDes "Makmur Mandiri" in Sendangtirto Village. The research uses a qualitative approach, employing interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the community has been involved in plastic waste management through the TPST BUMDes "Makmur Mandiri", although the involvement has not been optimal. Several challenges were identified, including low community awareness, inadequate waste management facilities, and limited operational funding. These challenges hinder the effectiveness of waste management and environmental pollution prevention efforts. Additionally, the community has yet to fully understand the importance of waste segregation and household waste management. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the Environmental Agency provide more support for the TPST BUMDes "Makmur Mandiri" and that regular socialization and outreach be conducted to raise community awareness and participation. It is hoped that with proper waste segregation at the source, plastic waste management can be more effective in preventing environmental pollution in Berbah District.
