Abstract
The Sand Dune is an ecosystem in the form of a hill or mound of sand formed due to the interaction between the constituent materials and wind activity. The background of this study lies in the rapid development of tourism in this region over the last decade, which has led to various environmental issues. Unregulated tourism can cause serious impacts on the sand dune environment and threaten the sustainability of its ecosystem. The objectives of this research are to examine the efforts for the preservation of the sand dunes in Parangtritis from damage caused by tourism activities, and to identify the solutions and challenges in preserving the sand dunes in the region. This study is empirical in nature, comparing regulations with the actual conditions in the field. The analysis used is qualitative data analysis, where the collected data is described and analyzed to provide answers to the research problem. The findings indicate several challenges in the preservation of sand dunes in Parangtritis, such as when attempts to relocate communities are made, they often feel the loss of their livelihoods, especially if they have long depended on the land for their economic needs. Therefore, a gradual approach is needed, taking into account the social and economic aspects of the community. The conclusion of this research is that the enforcement of regulations regarding the conservation of the Parangtritis Sand Dune needs to be clarified and upheld, as there are currently no clear regulations on rewards and punishments regarding sand dune conservation, particularly concerning activities that are incompatible and potentially disruptive to the development of the dunes.
