Abstract

This research examines the identity crisis in Minari, an American movie depicting the life of diasporas. This study employs Critical Discourse Analysis by S. Jager and F. Maier to analyze how the main character copes with east and western cultural contact. Furthermore, the main protagonist is analyzed using psychological perspectives to uncover unconsciousness in his/her decision-making. The research background discusses diaspora phenomena driving the proposal of this research. The literature review covers related theories, journals, and books to establish the novelty of this research. The method explains step by step process in completing this research. The research findings will help Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta’s international students overcome the cultural barrier when they are experiencing living abroad during two plus two programs.
