Abstract

vii ABSTRACT The purpose of the research are to assess the liquefaction vulnerability and excessive settlement due to earthquake on the east of Special region of Yogyakarta. Bantul regency was taken to be the area of research stdudy. To meet the purpose of research, there was done 10(ten) boring-log and Standard Penetration Test (SPT) on the research area. In the laboratory, there were also performed the physical properties tests , those are, sieve analysis and hydrometer test, moisture content, unit weight, specific gravity, atterberg limits according to ASTM. The shear strength parameters tests were also done on the direct shear and triaxial apparatus, especially for those under the ground water level. Before, assessment of safety factor, liquefaction potential index (LPI), and settlement were done on every on every point of boring log, cyclic stress ratio (CSR) and cyclic resistance ratio (CRR) analyses were performed. The result indicated that ,for every elevation, soil profile is saturated uniform fine to coarse sand that is very vulnerable to liquefaction. On average, ground water level is on -5.00. The bigger peak ground acceleration, the bigger the value of PLI and settlement for every point of boring log. For small earthquake magnitude, amax < 0,10G, the PLI is less than 5. It show that there is no serious damages on the soil on proposed bore point. For medium earthquake, 0,10g< amax < 0,20 g, the PLI increase to 10 that indicates settlement and small to medium damage on the soil. Then, on big earthquake magnitude, amax > 0, 30g, the PLI is more than 15, and there is serious damages and excessive settlement on the soil profile.
