Abstract

The residential areas of Yogyakarta City cause environmental problems. Based on the letter issued by the Mayor of Yogyakarta Number 158 of 2021, there are 273 hectares of slum areas in the City of Yogyakarta. This situation is an important concern for the Yogyakarta City Government and the Yogyakarta City Public Works and Residential Areas Department to reduce environmental problems in slum areas. The author's aim in writing this journal is to find out the role of the Yogyakarta City Housing and Settlement Area Public Works Department in maintaining environmental quality through the arrangement of Yogyakarta City settlements. The empirical legal research method is a legal research method that focuses on social facts. The role of the Yogyakarta City Housing and Settlement Area Public Works Department in maintaining environmental quality through Yogyakarta City Settlement Arrangement is very large. General Working, Housing and Residential Area Bureau (DPUPKP) is a state institution that carries out government affairs to assist the regional head in implementing government affairs in the fields of public works, housing, and settlement areas. The KOTAKU program is a national program to increase infrastructure acces and basic service in urban slum area for handling slum settlements into livable settlements In its implementation, the KOTAKU program involves the community to provide space to build sanitation rooms. Therefore, the PUPKP Service together with the Cleanliness and Parks Service have an obligation to provide an integrated and environmentally friendly waste management system, such as recycling and composting organic waste.
