Abstract

Research on "Defamation Through Mass Media Seen From the Perspective Juridical Act No. 40 of 1999" aims to find out and understand more about the mechanisms of accountability to the press before the court and also to know and understand more deeply about who should be responsible if there are those who feel defamed his name. The information conveyed by the press to the public, can be taken vary according to the responsiveness of each individual. A person can feel defamed because seeing the terms used by the press, while the press and media is not intended to defame someone with those terms it uses, only to draw the attention of the public. The clas between press and the public may occur as a result of a dish that is considered detrimental to a person or a certain group. This requires a fair settlement and accepted by the parties concerned. Phenomenon is the friction surfaced in the form of public or individual lawsuits against the press and vigilante actions against journalists such as the beating of journalists, seizure of the camera, and so forth.
