Abstract

Gebang Temple (CandiGebang) is a quite large temple located in the center of city near residential area. But the access to this temple is still hard to be described because of the lacking direction signs to the temple. Moreover, maintenance and restoration of Gebang Temple have not been optimally conducted. The aims of this study were to understand the role of Ancient Conservation Bureau of Yogyakarta Province in conserving Gebang Temple site as sanctuary and to understand problems that causeGerbang Temple less maintained and restored. Data gathered were analyzed qualitatively by using analysis conducting by understanding and arranging data collected systematically, so could be obtained a description concerning the problems and conditions examined. Based on this analysis, then, the study could be concluded by using inductive thinking rooted in particular knowledge to judge general event. The role of Ancient Conservation Bureau of Yogyakarta Province in conserving Gebang Temple has been conducted well, but not optimally. The conservation is conducted by doing regular maintenance (mechanical maintenance),chemical conservation activity, and cooperating with geologists, geodesists, and archeologists from universities in Yogyakarta. Less optimization of conserving Gebang Temple as sanctuary is caused by following problems: (1) unclear zonation regulation; (2) less human resources; and (3) retribution revenue is not used for conserving Gebang Temple as sanctuary.
