Abstract

The purpose of writing this law is to investigate and analyze the number of criminal offenses of abortion that occur in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) and to identify and analyze how the DIY’s Police Departmentcope with the crime of abortion among teenagers. The type of legal research used in this study is a normative legal research, which is a research that uses secondary data as the main data and primary data as supporting data. The results of this study are: (1) the crime of abortions in the city of Yogyakarta happened because Yogyakarta has means to live in promiscuity. All that is needed to support modern life is also available, and the lack of control from the parents, especially by the owner of the boarding houses, RT and the society. (2) In general, the efforts of the police to cope with the crime of abortion are in the form of preventive efforts (prevention) and repressive efforts (law enforcement). Prevention effort is done by monitoring in collaboration with local communities, conduct monitoring in the residence area occupied by students, especially in particular areas which is free and has no rules. Otherwise, the efforts of law enforcement is done by conducting raids directly to the places that has become targets of the police based on reports given by the public or the parties who know the existence of an abortion and conducting raids directly to the practice of illegal abortions. Also based on existing statistical data, there are just a few reports that go to the police, even almost no reports about the crime of abortion are given in a year. This is because the crime of illegal abortions is very difficult to extirpate and to be committed according to the rule of law due to the difficulty of doing investigation and secured information on the existence of an illegal abortion.
