Abstract

Population growth along with the high rate of urbanization to the cities has increased the volume of waste that has to be managed daily. This issue is worsened by the limited land for final waste disposal. Final waste disposal which applies sanitary landfill becomes an alternative to manage urban waste. Leachate is very thin liquid containing and suspended chemical as a result of separated by the microbe. Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Trewavas) is used in this research because this fish is part of fishery community. This research aims to figure out the toxicity of leachate towar tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Trewavas) and to figure out the chemical substance of leachate from the waste disposal Piyungan Bantul as well as its concentration value which caused death to the fish within 24 hours. The research design was to give 4 steps of treatment consisting the concentration variation of each 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% and 1 control. 10 tilapia was put in each aquarium and each treatment is repeated once. A variation treatment of concentration of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% is mixed. An analysis was done to the concentration of leachate toward the death of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Trewavas) by DMRT (Duncan Multiple Range Test) analysis which results in significant different α = 5 %.
