Abstract

Nowdays, civil work needs concrete in larger quantities, because it has several benefit characters. Concrete is made from sand, crused stone, cement, water and some times additive material. Karimunjawa Islands, which is located on Java Sea, 90 kilometers North of Jepara and which has been becoming a developing tourism site, needs concrete building for infrastructure. Karimunjawa sand is not eligible for building structure, so a qualified quarantied concrete is very expensive because must use some local material in large quantities for getting an economic concrete price. This research will attempt to substitute Muntilan sand by gradual increasing in composition to get a qualified-economic concrete, and will find its relation to its cost. As independent variable is substitution of Muntillan sand and as dependent variables are both the quality and cost of concrete. As control variables are the mix-composition of aggregate, water, wcf, cement, crused stone, and the price of material and labour wage which are prevailed when research is being done. The substitution values start from 0% to 100%. The mix-composition is 1:1.5:2.5, wcf 0.5, cement from Gresik company , and coarse aggregate from Karimunjawa (local) and from Jepara. Water from Karimunjawa. For collecting data about the quality of concrete, this research used instruments : cylinders moulding, weights, mixer, and compressive strength machine. For collecting data of concrepet price, several calculating-method were used, they were : BOW method, Aggarwal method and Contractor method. For analysis data, this research use description analysis. The results are :(1) There is a relation between improvement of sand gradation and both of quality and cost of concrete. The larger the composition of substitution, the higher quality and the more expensive its cost becames. (2) Concrete which is made from local crushed stone and improved local sand, has f'c from 8.4 MPa to 14.1 MPa, with price from Rp. 583,242 to Rp. 644,830 (3) Concrete which is made from Jepara crushed stone and improved local sand, has f'c from 10.4 Mpa to 27 MPa, with price from Rp. 657,077 to Rp 718,666 (4) In same quality, concrete using local crushed stone was 8.43% cheaper than concrete using Jepara crushed stone (5) Calculation by BOW method gives concrete price 9.8% more expensive than the other methods which are used in this study.
