Abstract

The legal problem in this research is how the role of UNHCR in providing protection against refugee residing in Greece. There are many refugees from various countries who need protection from the UNHCR in Greece. The research methods used in this research is normative legal research. Normative legal research is research done or focus on the positive legal norms in the form of international legal instruments relating to the cases in this research. In addition, this research also used secondary data in the form of materials obtained from the opinions of jurists and authorities either orally or in writing, and books of other laws that have to do with the problems that are written in this research. In normative research data used is secondary data, which consists of Materials Primary Law: The Jenewa Convention on 1951 and New York Protocol on 1967. United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Statute, Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 and also Secondary Legal Materials which consist of legal opinion obtained from books on international law and on international refugee law. In addition, secondary law were also obtained from law journals, internet website, and also a newspaper associated with the problem in this research. from the data analysis has been attempted by either UNHCR provides protection to refugees in accordance with their rights and obligations as determined in the 1951 Convention
