Abstract
Singapore as a coastal state whose sea area is part of the Malacca Strait took a policy to expand its land area by conducting reclamation around the sea. However, the policy towards reclamation activities carried out by Singapore became one of the potential problems arising between Singapore and the Malacca Strait. This research analyzes how is the legal impact of the sea reclamation by Singapore on the status and function of the Malacca Strait as an international strait. This research uses normative legal approach. The datas collected through interviews and library, such as books, journals, and various other of legislations. From the data analyzes, the author uses the deductive method in drawing conclusions. Based on the research conducted, the author concluded that the reclamation activities carried out by Singapore didn’t disrupt the sovereignty of other countries. However, if the reclamation activities are carried out massively and continuously, it will cause Singapore's land area to expand and the sea area to be narrower and shallower. This will certainly have an impact on the disruption of international shipping lines in the Malacca Strait.
