Abstract

To protect the environment, humans need to pay attention to awareness and daily behavior. One way to shape thinking, awareness, behavior, and habits is through education. This research focuses on the realization of the fulfillment of the right to a good and healthy environment through environmental education in non-formal institutions Community Learning Center for Sanggar Anak Alam (PKBM SALAM). PKBM SALAM is located in Nitiprayan, Kasihan, Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Based on the results of empirical legal research, interviews with facilitators, parents, and children of PKBM SALAM through purposive sampling method, and supported by secondary data. The authors found that the curriculum, the four pillars of SALAM approach (food, health, environment, and socioculture), the education system cycle learning, research-based learning methods, Home Visit programs, and a culture of waste management which is manifested in the formation of characters and habits that have awareness to create a good and healthy living environment. The implementation of environmental education is reflected from learning to grow vegetables or fruit, processing and consuming healthy food ingredients without flavors, preservatives, artificial coloring, reducing, managing and sorting waste by implementing zero waste, reducing the use of plastic or single-use packaging, inserting organic waste into the bio pores provided, and responsible for its own waste.
