Abstract

Disposable mask are objects that must be used by COVID-19 positive people who are undergoing self-isolation. Disposable mask used by people who are positive for COVID-19 are categorized as infectious waste. Therefore, there are special provisions in its management to prevent negative impacts on health and the environment. This study is aimed at knowing the legal aspects of infectious waste management of disposable mask in the era of the pandemic that occurred in the Tarakan City and what obstacles were encountered in managing them and their solutions. The research method used is empirical research that focuses on social facts. The results of this study indicate that the people of Tarakan City and the Tarakan City Environmental Service have not managed infectious waste with disposable mask in accordance with applicable regulations. The main obstacle faced by the community is the lack of education regarding the provisions for the management of infectious waste for disposable mask, while the obstacle faced by the Environmental Service is the absence of budgeting for the management of infectious waste COVID-19. The solution is to provide education to the people of Tarakan City regarding the provisions for the management of infectious waste for disposable mask and the Tarakan City Government is expected to be able to prepare a budget for managing COVID- 19 infectious waste.
