Abstract

Entering the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 provided very rapid technological growth. This growth changes lifestyles that prefer practical and fast things, such as shopping using the Shopee platform. An unscrupulous entrepreneur who is only concerned with personal matters takes advantage of the convenience of technology by selling counterfeit products, one of which is counterfeit oil products. Therefore, the formulation of the problem in this study is: How is legal protection provided to consumers who buy counterfeit oil products using the Shopee platform? And what accountability do Shopee and business actors give to consumers regarding counterfeit oil products purchased through the Shopee platform? The research method used is normative legal research. This study concludes that Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection is expected to be a reference in settlements in case of violations of rights and obligations by unscrupulous business actors. The responsibility given by Shopee is to provide various kinds of features so that consumers feel safe when shopping, and the responsibility of business actors is that if a business actor causes harm to consumers, then he has the right to be responsible, such as by providing compensation for products or money.
