Abstract
Writing of this background about the understanding of photography, photography community is known only to the extent such documentation photographs of the marriage, birthday, recreation and others. Photography during this development can not be separated from the development of human life itself, but the other side of photography was known also by police, who then called police photography, which is included in the police identification. The reason for using photography by police proved to be more emphasis on the depiction of nature and substance of information that are based on facts and factual. From that background writer tries to formulate problems are: How is the role of photography in a documentary revealing the crime police in Yogyakarta Special Region Regional Police. In this study the authors use a normative method, ie a method which focuses on positive legal norms which combined with other rules and other literature. From the research that has been done then the author can draw a conclusion about the role of photography in uncovering criminal police, apparently in the disclosure of a crime, the police need the help of other sciences, one of which is the photography department. These activities strongly support the police in uncovering the offenses occurred. Activities include shooting the scene, photographing a person or a suspect for the completeness of the data, and shooting in reconstruction activities and documentation for police shooting.
